Winnie Lee Wear is a registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern who has experience working with a diverse population including children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. She works under the supervision of Leonore Cash, M.A., MFT. Winnie earned a Master’s of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from California State University, Los Angeles. Previously, she also earned an MBA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Winnie spent her formative years in Hong Kong and is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese Chinese. After moving to Pasadena from Wisconsin, Winnie worked in administration in higher education in addition to loving and nurturing three significant young people (her children).
During her pursuit of the Marriage and Family Therapy degree, Winnie worked at a University-based psychology clinic and treated clients of diverse backgrounds and ages diagnosed with illnesses such as mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and personality disorders. At her internship with a community/school based agency, Winnie worked with children and adolescents who were struggling with attention, behavioral, mood, anxiety, and child-parental relationship issues. She simultaneously conducted family therapy and interfaced regularly with school personnel as well. At a separate community-based agency, Winnie conducted individual and group therapy with clients recovering from chronic mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, and mood disorders.
As a therapist, Winnie adopts an integrative approach utilizing psychodynamic, client-centered, cognitive- behavioral, and family systems treatment modalities. She believes every person is uniquely created and it is this uniqueness that drives her approach to therapy with each client. Winnie sees God’s potential and goodness in people and views her role as a therapist is to help bring that potential to awareness and fruition through a caring, grace-centered, and trusting therapeutic relationship. Winnie feels privileged and humbled to have the opportunity to walk alongside others and to provide hope in their process toward healing and wholeness. As Carl Rogers says, “The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction not a destination.”
