Joanne Weidman, M.S., MFT
Joanne Weidman is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who works with individuals, couples, and families, including young adult women and individuals in the entertainment industry. We are called to be in relationship, but many people struggle with intimacy. We want to get close, but fear that we will be required to compromise ourselves to get what we want and need. Whether your struggle is due to family patterns, trauma you've experienced, depression, anxiety, addiction, or personality issues, you need someone who understands your longings as well as your fears. I can partner with you, helping you to be authentic while building nurturing, two-way connections with safe people. I'll also help you learn to protect yourself from those who are not.
Therapy can equip you and teach you how to use the skills that allow you to be strong enough to withstand emotional storms, yet flexible enough to allow for appropriate intimacy in relationships. As Louisa May Alcott wrote, "I am no longer afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship." This can be true for you, too.
It takes some unique emotional skills to thrive in the brutal emotional landscape of the entertainment industry. I work frequently with actors, artists, writers, and entertainment industry professionals as part of my practice. Investment in your emotional repertoire may be as critical to your success as any workshop, showcase, or audition you've done.
Ms. Weidman has led anger management classes and codependence support groups in addition to frequently teaching at local churches on subjects integrating theology and psychology. She is a consultant for Hollywood Connect, an organization that equips Christians in the entertainment industry. She is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University and Fuller Theological Seminary.
MMs. Weidman also serves as La Vie's Director of Professional Development and Co-Director of Clinical Training.
